Beethoven's Last Six Quartets |
||
|
|
When Beethoven
was 47 years old, having written eight symphonies, the wife of his
nephew's schoolmaster complimented him on his masterful wondrous
works. Oh, he answered distractedly, I am thinking about something
much better now. That thought, followed by years of study with old
Albrechstberger, his counterpoint teacher, yielded a new organic way of
composing, along with a transformation of his being - as revealed by his
music - unparalleled in music history, culminating in his last six
quartets a decade later. Listen to Manfred Clynes' beautiful and masterful interpretations made with the SuperConductor computer music program. |
