Claude Debussy attended the Paris Conservatory and
studied piano and composition. A demonstration of the Javanese
gamelon at the Paris exhibition in 1889 had a lasting effect on his
music.
He pushed the limits of harmony and form of his
time with piano and orchestra compositions. Today he is
regarded as one of the most influential composers of the late 19th
and early 20th centuries.
