Dvorak was born near Prague and studied violin and organ in local schools.
He eventually
earned the position of professor of composition at the Prague
Conservatory.
His entire musical career was influenced by the
spirit of Bohemian nationalism. From 1892 to 1895 he served as the director
of the new National Conservatory in New York. His compositions,
while there, showed a deep interest in American folk music. He
also made several trips to England where he was very admired. |
