Mendelssohn first appeared as a child prodigy pianist when he was
nine. He had a early career as a
performer, composer and conductor. His best composition was
before he was 18. His Romantic style retained some classical
roots. In the 1830's he made a grand
tour through Europe. In London he conducted the London
Philharmonic Orchestra. His viist to Scotland inspired the
Hebrides Overture. Later, he conducted the Gewandhaus
Orchestra in Leipzig. He also helped found the Leipzig
Conservatory. He's also credited with reviving interest in J.S.
Bach.
