Schubert was educated as a chorister at the imperial court in
Vienna. He later qualified as a teacher.
He spent much of his life in Vienna, but never
attracted wealthy patrons. His compositions revealed a great
talent for melody. He wrote many symphonies and string
quartets, but is remembered more as a song writer. He died at
31 and left many unfinished works.
